The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid is designed to equip individuals with the essential skills and knowledge required to effectively respond to emergencies involving infants and children. Course Overview
This course combines theory and practical-based training to enable participants to confidently manage a wide range of paediatric emergencies. It is tailored for those working in childcare settings, including nursery staff, childminders, and other early years professionals.
Course Content
- First aid
- Dealing with emergencies
- Choking (baby and child)
- Basic life support (baby and child)
- Patient examination – spotting the sick child
- Unconsciousness
- Anaphylaxis and asthma
- Regulations, recording and reporting
- Wounds, bleeding including shock management
- Fractures
- Burns and scalds
- Eye and ear injuries
- Childhood illnesses including meningitis and febrile convulsions
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who has sustained an electric shock
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with burns and scalds
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected poisoning
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with anaphylaxis
Course Duration
The course is conducted over two days and includes both theoretical learning and practical assessments.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the assessments, participants will receive a Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid certificate, valid for three years. Annual refresher updates are recommended to maintain knowledge and skills.
