The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid is designed to equip individuals with the essential skills and knowledge required to effectively respond to emergencies involving infants and children. Course Content

  • First aid
  • Dealing with emergencies
  • Choking (baby and child)
  • Basic life support (baby and child)
  • Patient examination – spotting the sick child
  • Unconsciousness
  • Anaphylaxis and asthma
  • Regulations, recording and reporting
  • Wounds, bleeding including shock management
  • Fractures
  • Burns and scalds
  • Eye and ear injuries
  • Childhood illnesses including meningitis and febrile convulsions

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature 
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who has sustained an electric shock
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with burns and scalds
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected poisoning
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with anaphylaxis

Course Duration

The course is conducted over two days and includes both theoretical learning and practical assessments.


Certification

Upon successful completion of the assessments, participants will receive a Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid certificate, valid for three years. Annual refresher updates are recommended to maintain knowledge and skills.
